Hope Del Carlo

Background

Over the last two decades, Hope has represented countless homeowners in lawsuits against abusive mortgage lenders and servicers.

Her cases have generated dozens of useful reported Oregon District Court opinions on the Truth in Lending Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Oregon Unlawful Trade Practices Act, and many other consumer protection statutes.

Beginning in 2012, she coordinated a series of foreclosure defense projects for low- and moderate-income homeowners all over Oregon. These projects helped more than 2,000 homeowners across Oregon.

In 2023, Hope graduated from the Gerry Spence Method residential college for trial lawyers. She believes that juries are the foundational element of our civil justice system.

Hope’s current practice focuses on getting justice for people who’ve been harmed by abusive financial institutions.

Selected victories

An Oregon couple was financially abused in a reverse mortgage foreclosure. Hope co-counseled at trial, and the team obtained a $10 million jury verdict. (2026)

A homeowner on the Southern Oregon coast spent ten years fighting a mortgage servicer whose contractors illegally invaded his home. As a result of Hope’s work just before trial, the servicer paid damages to the homeowner, and the court awarded over $100,000 in attorney fees. (2025)

A non-English-speaking Oregon couple were defrauded by their mortgage broker. Hope was part of the trial team, and they won. The case became a seminal Oregon appellate decision on punitive damages and mandatory arbitration that has been cited more than 100 times. Vasquez-Lopez v. Ben. Or., Inc., 210 Or.
