Justice is Elemental.

A Small law firm with a huge mission.

We represent borrowers who’ve been harmed by abusive lenders and people who’ve been mistreated at work.

We’re powered by decades of legal experience, courage in the courtroom, and relentless commitment to the dream of a better Oregon. Using consumer protection and civil rights laws, we challenge powerful interests that hurt Oregonians. Because all of us deserve a shot at the American dream.

We practice law all over Oregon.

If you’re experiencing legal problems that threaten your financial well-being, we may be able to help:

  • Predatory mortgage lending and abusive loan servicing.

  • Financial abuse of elders and disabled people by corporations, including abusive debt collection and unfair banking practices.

  • Discrimination related to housing, work, lending, and disability.

  • Home construction contractor disputes and problems with door-to-door sales of solar panels and financing.

  • Employment problems such as discrimination and unpaid wages.

  • “I can finally breathe.”

I cannot express how grateful I am to you for representing me and for believing in me! I do want to tell you how much I appreciated your words of encouragement and affirmation to me over these past several months, and now I can say that I am starting to believe it. I woke up on the day after and for the first time, in a LONG time, felt hopeful. I can finally breathe and I can finally close that door from my past and start afresh — that's what you helped me get back, hope!

    — L.E.

  • “The care and integrity you’ve shown throughout this process reflect the very best ideals of your profession.”

As our legal adventure comes to a close, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the colossal and exceptional work you have done on my behalf. Your dedication, professionalism, and thoughtful advocacy have not only made a real difference in my case but have also restored my faith and trust in the legal profession. The care and integrity you’ve shown throughout this process reflect the very best ideals of your profession. I am deeply appreciative of the time, effort, and insight you’ve devoted to my case and for standing by me through each step. Thank you for your outstanding work and for reaffirming that true commitment to justice still exists in the practice of law.

    — N.K.

  • “I’m truly at peace with the decision I made, and I’m grateful for it.”

Although I know you could have helped me go even further, what I saw during the process made me realize something very important — that moving on and building a new life is far more meaningful than continuing to wrestle with the ugliness of human nature. I’m truly at peace with the decision I made, and I’m grateful for it. I want to especially thank you — without your support, professionalism, and tireless effort, I wouldn’t have reached this positive outcome. This experience has been one of the most unique and eye-opening chapters of my decades of professional life in the US. It has taught me so much, and I deeply appreciate your role in it.

  • “Beyond her legal expertise, she treated us with genuine kindness and respect.”

When our mortgage company attempted to foreclose on our home over a disputed second mortgage, we felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. From the moment we began working with Elemental Law, everything changed. Hope was incredibly knowledgeable, ethical, and compassionate. She fought for us every step of the way and navigated a very complex situation with skill and determination. Thanks to her advocacy, she was able to negotiate a settlement that was not only fair, but something we could realistically manage. What began as a frightening situation that could have resulted in foreclosure ended in a resolution that protected our home and our future. Beyond her legal expertise, she treated us with genuine kindness and respect. Conversations with her felt less like speaking to an attorney and more like speaking with a trusted friend who truly cared about our outcome. Without Elemental Law, we would have been drowning in the process and very likely would have lost our home. We are deeply grateful for Hope’s work on our behalf.

  • “Concluded my 10+ year case against my prior mortgage servicer.”

Hope Del Carlo was miraculously able to conclude my 10+ year case against my prior Mortgage Servicer! Hope is an attorney (lawyer) that actually cares for the wellbeing of her clients. She is befitting of her name… ‘Hope’.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It depends on the type of case you have and the services you need.

We typically charge a first meeting (consultation) fee of $400.

We will talk about costs at our first meeting (or before then if there is a first meeting fee).

  • Abuses of power can wound bodies, minds, spirits, families, and communities. A big part of our role as attorneys is learning about you and your goals. We listen to our clients’ stories with humility, and work hand-in-hand with them to get justice—for themselves, but also for the common good, whenever that’s possible.

In our experience, the clients who feel best about their outcomes strike a balance between their determination to get justice and their willingness to heal, grow, and work as a team.

  • That’s hard to predict.

Many cases are resolved by out-of-court settlements, which sometimes happen as quickly as two or three months. Going to court usually takes longer, and if we have to appeal a court decision, it can take years.

Settling a case can save time and money and accomplish goals that the courtroom can’t. We also believe in the power of jury trials—where regular people decide cases. When we go to trial or appeal, we are confident, tenacious advocates.

  • We do accept some cases close to trial, including partnering with other lawyers as trial counsel or co-counsel. If that’s your situation, please contact us right away to see if we can help.

  • The best way is to fill out our contact form. It asks key questions that will help attorneys decide if a consultation is a good fit.

You may also call us at 503-926-6303.

  • We do our best to respond within two business days, and often sooner.

If we can’t help, we’ll recommend other options if possible.

If we may be able to help, we’ll schedule a first meeting with you. First meetings last up to one hour and happen over the phone or on Zoom. We’ll talk about your situation and determine next steps.
